Matter/Light is a concept developed by Angel Orensanz in his most recent work and focuses on light as a creative substance. His exhibition Matter/Light was presented on the 2009 edition of the Armory Show at the Foundation’s main building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, and some of the light boxes that integrated it are currently exhibited at the Island.

Linnaea Tillett, Ph.D., is principal of Tillett Lighting Design Inc., which she established in 1983. An artist, lighting designer, and environmental psychologist, she has extensive experience in public landscape and architecture, light art, fine art and luxury interiors. The firm has built a reputation for crafting highly nuanced lighting programs, combining artistry, technical innovation, and functionality.

Ms. Tillett holds a doctorate in environmental psychology. Her innovative approach incorporates a thorough understanding of the perceptual, behavioral and psychological effects of light with extensive experience in lighting design. She gives careful consideration, not only to the visual environment, but also to the emotional texture of the space as well—seamlessly merging comprehensive and up-to-date technical knowledge with sophisticated aesthetic values.

Ms. Tillett and her staff have collaborated with leading architects, interior designers, landscape architects, and artists: Maya Lin, Toshiko Mori, Kiki Smith, Lebbeus Woods, Beyer Blinder Belle, Michael Van Valkenburgh, Olin Studio, and Quennell Rothschild. She frequently speaks on lighting, public space, and the psychology and physiology of lighting, and has been on the faculty of the Masters in Lighting Design Program at Parsons The New School for Design since 1992.

Ms. Tillett holds Masters and Doctorate degrees in Environmental Psychology from the Graduate School and University Center, City University of New York, and a bachelor degree in Philosophy from University College, London. She is a native New Yorker and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
